Zine Machine truckin along
she's running well but there's a few things i want to do. i've gotta get more labels, had a few zinesters switch zines. i also need to get a new lightbulb, it takes a long flurescent bulb and i just haven't made the time to get it with a lot of other stuff going on!! i need to replace the foam weather stripping on the door too, the current stuff is starting to disentegrate in some areas. but also so far nine zinesters have sold out and restocked which is pretty dang cool and i really love getting to give people money for their work! i'm hoping to organize some more programming around the machine, figure out some fun workshops and stuff, get a grant, pay people to do stuff. im excited to see where it all goes even tho it can be kind of annoying to drive to hamilton to do it lol
The Zine Machine Lives!
she's beauty, she's grace, she's a monster that'll eat your face
the zine machine is almost done! Right now it's in crunch time with venus painting her and get her fully ready for launch on april 13th but there's been some interesting hiccups along the way. i had some issues with the lock and had to get a locksmith to drill it out, the coin reader only takes nickels, dimes and quarters so we're trying to figure out using tokens instead, six of the slots don't work right now so i'm trying to do something fun in them so they don't just look broken.
aka it's been A LOT. I am STRESSED. but i think it's going to work out and I have back up plans if it doesnt and the launch will go JUST FINE. it's going to be cute and lowkey with some readings from the art committee and i will only have to talk a little bit. but also i will be running zinetopia during the day, going home to change, and then rushing into hamilton to launch the zine machine @.@ i dont know how i always do this to myself!!
searching for vending machines
why are there so many but not enough?
the grant money officially hit so im deeply scouring marketpkace, kijiji, etc finding all the vending mahcines i can within a large radius. ive got a pal with a pick up truck who's willing to drive so that's extremely helpful. i keep searching for the perfect machine. ive seen so many times and from the looks of things i specifically need an older snack machine. ive found a few that could do the trick but im also trying to make sure its not too pricey bc i dont have a huge amount to work with.
it's still early stages but it's all starting to feel real now. the spot i contacted is ready to host. soon ill have the machine and be able to find an artist to paint it! im excited.
granting woes
do not let anxiety win
currently waiting for the grant $ to hit my account, i got the notice last friday and then monday was a holiday but im soooo anxious i messed up banking info at some point. money is so stressful! here's hoping it hits soon so i can buy a vending machine!
zine machine
a zine vending machine project
ive been working on setting up a zine vending machine for a couple years now actually.
initially i was in talks with some zinesters, a city gallery department head and it was going ok but i was horrifically depressed during that time and i never got my shit together to write a grant.
this year has been far more successful. i managed to write and get a grant from the city to make it happen. right now ive been waiting on the deposit for the grant but ive also been spending a lot of time looking at secondhand vending machines. i also spoke with a gallery about it living there and it seems like it will happen.
ive got my eye on a vending machine online that i hope i can get, it feels like the right one.
